4 Design for 4 Weeks. Week 4: The Spirit of Lost Heroes

Acn_week4
To Celebrate the 2012 African Nations Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, the Out of Africa Campaign has teamed up with football writer, Adrian Kajumba, and Peter Scarks Design to present... 4 Designs for 4 Weeks.

The competition comes to an end this weekend and our final design is: The Spirit of Lost Heroes

David v Goliath. Underdogs v favourites. Zambia v Ivory Coast. Few will give the Copper Bullets much hope of shooting down the Elephants in Sunday’s African Cup of Nations final. But Zambia could have one crucial extra man on their side in Libreville – fate. In 1993 their entire national team were killed in a plane crash off the coast of Gabon.

Now, 19 years on, they are aiming to honour their fallen heroes in a stadium a stone’s throw from the scene of Zambia’s greatest sporting tragedy. They had luck on their side when they shocked Ghana in the semi-final - could Zambia do it again and lift the trophy for the first time?

4 Designs for 4 Weeks. Week 3: 42 years of Hurt!

42 years of hurt was replaced with unbridled joy when Sudan ended their African Cup of Nations hoodoo. The Falcons of Jediane edged out Burkina Faso 2-1 to record their first ACN victory in 11 games since they won the competition in 1970.

And that narrow success was enough to see Sudan sneak through to the last eight, where they will face Zambia tomorrow (Saturday), for the first time since they were crowned champions.

4 Designs for 4 Weeks: Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

Acn_week2
This weeks design is "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" Equatorial Guinea did - and the co-hosts were celebrating more than just victory when they gave the 2012 African Cup of Nations lift off on Saturday. The National Lightning were playing for more than just points against Libya after being promised a million-dollar bonus from Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, the son of their president, also known as: Teodorin.

And the money was theirs when Javier Balboa struck with just three minutes left of the tournament curtain raiser in Bata.

Each week we'll present a design based on what happens in the previous week of football. This weeks design begins with "Who will win the 2012 Africa Nations Cup?"

We asked freelance football writer, Adrian Kajumba, for his predictions for each of the 16 teams. The inaugural match see hosts, Equatorial Guinea, face Libya on Saturday 21st January at Bata.
